Red snapper season, once again, was a HILARIOUS joke! Virtually every fish we caught was incidentally killed — usually via a hungry goliath grouper or a sandbar shark full of eggs. I mean, all the FWC sitting at the docks and collecting ear bones and scales over the last 10 years — and what real data have they gotten? IT’S A JOKE!
Anyway, fishing was awesome this week out of the Port. You name it, we caught it — sails, cobia, mahi, kings, sharks, tarpon — and all sorts of bottom fish. We are dealing with wind right now though, and that’s gonna put a damper on this week’s fishing prospects. We just need the weather to cooperate in letting us get to where we need to be and to put some fish in the boat consistently. Hopefully, it lets up soon so we can get out there and do our thing.
When the weather does clear up, look for nearshore fishing along the beach to continue to be great for sharks, goliaths and tarpon. Find the bait pods and you’ll find the fish. As of late, the pods have been in the bight and around the false cape. It’s a good bet to start your search there.
Good Luck!
